I have visited the UK and France before for family visits. Both of these international excursions broadened my view of differences in community and social life based on where you are. I have also been to Hawaii, lived in Georgia, and multiple other cities and spots around the US. Seeing different regions, cultures, and lifestyles of people around the world and the US, I feel confident that my world view is broader than the average person. Through these experiences and my observation of differences between those in other parts of the world, I feel like I am prepared to come into the RAP with an open-mind towards learning about engineering and its application on a global scale.
I am not terribly particular with my ideals of who I would like to live down the hall from, however, I do have hopes for someone that I can appreciate and connect with. For the majority of my life I have been very antisocial and self-conscious whenever I try to make conversation. I have grown over the past few years by pushing myself to try new things and engage with people I normally wouldn't. If I were to live down the hall from one or multiple people that I can converse with and develop relationships with, it would mean the world to me and my personal journey. Someone who is friendly and willing to learn about me and has passions of their own that I can learn about. The whole college experience in my eyes is a chance for me to pursue my passions and learn about others around me who are also moving towards their goals as well.
As I said above, the college experience in my eyes will provide a chance for me to develop my passion and goals in an environment full of experienced professors and intelligent students. What this RAP would do for me is provide this environment full of other individuals with a similar mindset. Other problem-solvers who are open-minded and pursuing their goals in engineering will help push me along as well. I think that as a person, being a part of a community of engineers and world-thinkers will shape who I am as an adult. Through that journey of community and pursuing engineering, I hope to leave some sort of impact on my peers and can say that I helped push someone forward in their life.
