I have fortunately been given the opportunity to travel to countries around the globe in my life. I began traveling when I was young, and since then I have been to Sweden, Iceland, France, England, Mexico, New Zealand, and the Cook Islands. I’ve been to Sweden over a dozen times as my mother is Swedish and I have dual citizenship. Living in America makes it hard for me to connect with my heritage and traditions, which is one reason why travel is so important to me; it allows me to absorb my family’s culture. I have also extensively traveled within the U.S., from Hawaii to New York and many states in between. Traveling is easily one of my favorite things in life: seeing beautiful new landscapes, meeting a variety of different people, and learning about cultures. I hope to study abroad during my junior year, not only because I find travel enjoyable but also because I predict that it will open up new opportunities for me.
I would want to be surrounded by students that are passionate and hardworking in their studies, as surrounding myself with more ambitious people will encourage me to do better as well. I would also want to be around people that are amicable and outgoing, since I believe it’s important to work hard but also to make friends and have fun. Some activities outside of school that I enjoy are skiing, hiking, and swimming, so I hope that in the RAP I will be able to find people who enjoy them as well. I also enjoy reading and painting. For me, school is a priority so I hope I can be around students that study hard and stay focused but also enjoy doing the same extracurricular activities as me.
Traveling and engineering are some of my biggest passions in life, and combining them would be an extraordinary opportunity for me. Being around engineers that are studying different fields could help me decide which specific field I want to pursue, as right now I am in open option engineering. Not only will the community benefit me, but I also believe that my passion and drive will inspire and motivate those around me. I am always willing to help my fellow students with homework or studying, and personally I love creating study groups and class groupchats. I enjoy making new connections, so I will be able to be a friend to anyone in the community that needs one. As someone who loves to plan out trips, I’m hoping to create group ski trips or hiking trips with the other members of the RAP in order to connect with them and create new friendships. I believe that the Global Engineering Rap will have a positive impact on me both academically and socially, and that I will reciprocate this positivity.
