I lived in Guatemala alone this fall (2021) working as a mechanic and living with a native family. I loved the immersion and being exposed to new, cultural perspectives!
I also lived in Mexico as a kid when my mom was on sabbatical in Guadalajara.
I want to live near someone who loves to think about machines and how they work, while listening to their favorite kinds of music from home and eating their favorite snacks from home, especially if they are really different from mine. We could do homework together and tell stories about the similarities and differences in how we grew up. Maybe this person would want to work hard and collaborate with me on building something. Our language or cultural barriers would dissolve because we were focused on making something together.
I have lived in Guatemala, Mexico, and Canada. My best friend is Guatemalan. My mother is Canadian and is fluent in French. We have shared our home with tenants from Thailand, France, and Senegal. I have grown up in a global community, listening to different languages and perspectives, and I am grateful for how much that has added to my learning and thinking.

Living in the Global Engineering RAP at CU Boulder would contribute to my training as an engineer because the problems the world faces are universal and will require all of us putting our heads together to come up with innovative solutions, no matter our backgrounds. I want to contribute to this global community of engineers by rolling up my sleeves and being willing to work hard while also being a bridge for students coming from faraway places to my home, Boulder, CO.
