Biomedical Engineering
English (5), Spanish (3), Portuguese (1)
Although it is not a travel experience, I spent my summer working at Lake Del Valle as a lifeguard. The primary demographic of Del Valle is Mexican-American people and through contrasting my experiences there with my experiences at other Regional Park locations, I realized the extent to which demographic impacts healthcare resources. Through this I have developed a passion against medical deserts.
My ideal hallmate would probably the the dog (Citra?) this is because I grew up with a very loud dog so I don't mind barking.
Realistically, I would like someone who is clean, easygoing and communicative. Being hallmates with someone who was also going into biomedical engineering would be super helpful and interesting because we could talk about the really niche things that are only fascinating to a specific group of people as well as study together. I am definitely a people-person, so someone friendly would be nice too.

My two biggest goals in Engineering address the water crisis in Mozambique and the issue of medical deserts. Medical deserts are something that I can address through my major, and I plan to, but the water crisis is something that I can tackle using the resources of the Global Engineering RAP. My dad is a civil engineer and the case in Mozambique has stuck with me ever since I learned about it a couple years ago. This program covers so many of the reasons I want to be an engineer, and being surrounded by like-minded people, all working toward the same goal is an unmatched energy. Going to college and living with other kids my age, who are also passionate and informed is priceless and I believe that through my experiences, desire for a better world, travel hopes, and passion, I would be a worthwhile addition.
