In my freshman year of high school, I traveled to France with my friend and his family. We spent a week in the city and a week on a boat in the Canal du midi exploring the french countryside. Being on the boat taught me a lot of valuable experiences like how important patience is when our engine would have trouble and we'd have to spend an hour fixing it or waiting for the gates to close and allowing for the water to fill up while holding the boat in a steady place. I also acquired a lot of hands-on skills like how to navigate basic instruments, how to operate a boat, how to tie a dock line, basic mechanical skills, and many more hands-on experiences that will help prepare me for my time in engineering.
I would like to live down the hall from a well-motivated student who focuses on their academics and has a set goal for their life encouraging academic excellence. But at the same time, I would like someone who after their homework is done says "hey let's go run up the frat" or "let's throwback now." Just someone who is really fun, outgoing, and active but also knows how to take school seriously and be academically motivated.
I want to be a member of the Global Engineering RAP at CU Boulder because I want to leave a lasting impact on the Boulder engineering community through the relationships and experiences I'd shared. Some things I am excited about are participating in community dinners where we can all get to know each other and work on our communication skills as well. I think it's such a unique experience to be down the hall from your friend but at the same time be in a similar concentration so they could help me with my general work. As a member of First Robotics through most of high school, I'll be able to bring some unique experiences to the table when tackling certain mechanical issues due to my heightened knowledge of machines, electronics, and the general engineering design process.
