Every 3 years me and my family take a trip to Ethiopia to visit family. Which include the cities of Addis Ababa, Asella, and Gondar. With these trips I am able to see the differences between the way the US as well as my families country deal with problems concerning infrastructures and how they should be ran . As well as the differences between how each city functions and runs with the systems they have in place for everyday things such as water and electricity. With my father being a civil engineer he always talks to me about the changes that could happen in his home country. things that would improve the quality of life, and in recent years those things have begun to come along. Giving me a unique perspective as every time I go to visit its like I'm jumping into the future with new systems in place, each time improving the way that people live.
I would want to live near someone who has goals that they want to achieve, and instead of bringing others down for their own gain helps their peers achieve their goals as well. Someone who is open to new ideas while also contributing their own thoughts to the problem and giving a new view on a situation. Someone that will take criticism, whether it be good or bad and use it to better themselves as well as the ones around them. As well as someone that doesn't judge others due to their family situation or financial status. A person that doesn't look at what others grew up with or around and change their opinion about them, but someone who interacts with those people and see what their character is like before assuming anything about them.
I believe that the Global Engineering RAP would not only allow me to interact with likeminded people but also give me a new perspective on the things I'm trying to change. Surrounding myself with people that like me want to change the way things are around the globe. whether it be helping improve the infrastructures in a place like Ethiopia, or helping the earth stay around for longer. I feel that being with peers that want to help the world similarly to what I want to do would do nothing but give me room to grow as a person as well as an engineer. Showing me new perspectives on issues that on my own I would not have seen before. While also giving me the opportunity to speak with others that are in the college of engineering if I'm ever having troubles in my academics. Being surrounded by people that not only have a similar mindset to me but also are having similar struggles, I believe that I'll be able to reach out for assistance or even assist others that need it. With these interactions allowing me to find friends on campus that could support me in ways that others may not. In the residential community I hope to be able to lighten the mood and make sure that everyone is doing well and is cared for, helping wherever I can.Keeping the community a positive place and helping everyone feel included. Because I believe that the more enjoyment everyone in the community is having the more connected we will all be, and thus the more productive we will be as a group.
