My travel experiences have been limited, but has made an impact on me nonetheless. I have been fortunate enough to travel to places like Florida, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona and a few other states and I have loved getting to see the similarities as well as differences in my community. In the future, I would love to travel to new places and learn all about their cultures and daily lives. I have a friend from Ethiopia and have always wanted to visit and help as many people as I could, and just make connections with people with different lives than I. I would love to help make water clean and safe to drink and Africa is a country that struggles with that more than many other countries, so I think visiting there would help me a great deal to see and understand what needs to be done to get them the tools and help they need to prosper. I live in a privileged area and am aware that is not the case for everyone. Every person should have access to the same necessities and from what I have seen throughout my travel experiences, it is not true. Being aware and understanding the importance of equality, not only when it comes to human rights, but human necessities has prepared me to enter into the global engineering rap at CU boulder.
My idea of the perfect person is someone who shares similar values with me, is motivated, respectful, and is open minded. I would want us to be competitive with each other and strive to beat the other with a higher test score, push one another academically. I want them to be on the same page as me when it comes to going and hanging out with friends or staying in to study for the night. I think by having room/hall mates with similar majors will help tremendously when it comes time to say school comes first. I want both of us to show each other things from our hometown and learn the ropes of our new school together. I want us to become family.
I would really like to become a member of the Global Engineering RAP at CU because it goes in conjunction with everything I stand for. I am passionate about helping others and pushing our society to treat everyone as equals. One of my goals in studying engineering is to provide clean water to everyone and the Global Engineering RAP is a great tool that can help me do so. It will allow me to work with other students who have the same ideas and hopefully reach our goals. The engineering community at CU is very focused and will help me stay on track. Working with others in a close knit community will help improve my confidence in my engineering training, especially because engineering is predominantly male, knowing women wanting to purse the same career as me will keep me motivated and help me stand strong when faced with adversity. Being a part of the RAP engineering hall will help me make friends who have similar interests to me as well as academic goals. I plan to personally contribute by showing up for the program and making it a priority in my life. I will step outside of my comfort zone, try new things and keep an open mind in the dorms as well as my classes. I really hope to bring everything I have to this program and see what the program has in store for me!
