Throughout my life, I have only been to two countries, Mexico and Costa Rica. While I was traveling for vacation purposes, I was able to experience two very different cultures than the United States. Seeing the diversity between these countries and my country, sparked my interest. One particular experience that enlightened me was in Costa Rica; I had the opportunity to go to a locals personal home for lunch. I was able to see how she home-brewed her coffee and learned how to make her favorite traditional meal. Even something as simple as a lunch broadened my knowledge and interest to learn more about her everyday life. Being able to travel with engineering would be a privilege to share my knowledge with other countries and to be able to become immersed in their culture. While I don’t have much experience with travel, I have a passion for traveling, and my small experiences, makes me ready to be a part of the Global Engineering RAP.
The person that I would want to live down the hall with me is someone that shares the same passions as me. Someone who is passionate about the world and becoming the change for our generation. Engineering is about being innovative and open-minded to new possibilities. To be able to have someone to share what engineering is about is extremely important. I would also want someone who has a balance between their education and experiencing everything else the University of Colorado Boulder has to offer. Having a balance between education, social and wellness activities is important to our health and becoming a well-rounded student. This the person I would want to live down the hall from me in the Global Engineering RAP.
Our world is full of so many opportunities and experiences. But, there are many issues that our world is facing. I believe that the biggest power that we have is knowledge. Being part of the Global Engineering RAP will allow me to use my skills that I learn from engineering to spread them to the world. Our generation is our future. We have the opportunity to be able to fix the problems around us and a community that is passionate about the same issues can bring a change for the better. To have a connection to the Mortenson Center in Global Engineering is a stepping stone to change for our world. Being part of the residential community, I am ready to bring my passion for traveling and education to others. I want to work with other students that have the same passion as me and are ready to use engineering for the betterment of our world.
