I have traveled to a number of countries outside the U.S. on vacation, (including Japan, Ireland, England, Switzerland, and France), exploring and learning about their unique cultures and histories. Seeing the architecture of cities and buildings excites my curiosity on how to create the best sustainable living space. Witnessing the extensive use of renewable energy in certain countries makes me optimistic on how all countries can work together to develop similar earth-friendly habits. Taking part in certain cultural/social norms, such as wearing masks in public transit in Tokyo for example, opens up new ideas on ways to increase public safety. There is so much more to uncover when tackling global problems, and having a broad lens will allow myself and fellow engineers to brainstorm a variety of solutions to important problems.
I would want a person who has completely different experiences than me but with similar goals and work ethic. Having similar experiences lessens the range of possibility when thinking of solutions; only with a diverse set of minds can a group solve problems in a way that takes every variable into account. This person is also driven by their passion to help the planet and the people living in it. Sustaining the health of the earth is very important to me, and I want the people nearest to me to have that similar goal in mind. Too long have people created things to kill the earth; it is time for a generation of people who want to help it. I would also like to live near students who are academically focused. Being surrounded by students who strive for achievement will motivate me to work harder. I am already a work driven person, and having similar people around me to support my work will help me make trusting relationships.
Global issues are equally important as internal ones. Climate change, global poverty, world hunger, pandemic fallout, clean and accessible water: these are just a few of the main issues our world is dealing with right now, and i want my education to have a focus on these issues. I want my future work to help solve them, if not that, at least not contribute to them. Sharing my living experience with like-minded people will enhance my comprehension of the world and my studies, allowing me to apply what I learn to a global scale. Likewise, I will bring my motivation to learn and help the world for others o see, and my experiences for others to learn from.
