I have not yet had the opportunity to study abroad (something I hope to do in the future), but I am fortunate to have been exposed to many cultures through travel. Instead of a list, I will simply talk about the one that stood out to me most and why. When I visited Costa Rica, I was captured by the overflowing positivity that I encountered. You could not go three steps without a cheerful ¡Pura Vida! from one of the locals. I remember one man who, in the same breath as wishing me a Pure Life, told me that Costa Rica has no military, no navy, no airforce, only the birds. He lived so differently than I, and to have your eyes opened to that is a wonderful feeling. I hope to continue to have to reevaluate my worldview because of the people around me in college, and I can think of no better way to do that than through the Global Engineering RAP.
Down the hall from me would live a fiercely intelligent woman of different ethnicity. We would get to know each other slowly, perhaps a little intimidated by our differences at first. Then, we would discover that we share a major: Aerospace Engineering. Then we'd discover that we share more than just a major, we share a passion. Bonded by a shared passion, we'd collaborate on projects together, and we'd even come up with our own projects to work on, motivated by our shared drive to make the world a better place. Through shared passions that we approach with different perspectives, we'd form an unbreakable bond.
I hope to find a community of like-minded people in the Global Engineering RAP. As a woman who plans to study Aerospace Engineering, I want to feel like I have a group of like-minded people to share ideas with. Within this community, I hope to collaborate on projects and come up with new ideas. This collaboration is essential in engineering and requires that everyone bring their unique perspective to the table.
I hope to bring my attitude of enthusiasm and curiosity to the community. From the very beginning of high school, I have developed my passions through independent study. I started with pouring over Astronomy books, then I moved to podcasts on Cosmology, then books on Astrophysics. Now, I have the opportunity to pursue whatever it is that I find interesting with similar people. I will have the opportunity to have engaging conversations with people about their intellectual interests as well as share my own. After all, enthusiasm is infectious, and I hope to catch the enthusiasm of others as well as spread my own.
