Mechanical Engineering (also thinking about concentration in CS)
English (5), Spanish (2)
When I was younger, I had the opportunity of living in Beijing, China for three years due to my father’s job. During my time there, I was exposed to a completely different culture compared to the U.S. As such, I was forced to adapt to a unique way of living, which involved me learning basic Chinese, picking up on the manners that were expected at markets, and even just understanding that I could no longer drink water from the tap anymore. Having this international experience has prepared me to adapt to the customs of different cultures.
In addition to my experience in China, I have taken Spanish for three years in high school. The knowledge that I have acquired in my Spanish classes have prepared me to travel to any Spanish-speaking country and communicate basic ideas with the locals there.

In the Global Engineering RAP, I want to be surrounded by people who are as passionate about the applications of STEM as me. I hope to meet other people who spend way too long doing math problems for fun or binge watching 3blue1brown videos on YouTube. I want to be around people that I can walk to class with, do homework with, and study for tests with on late nights.
In addition to this, I aspire to meet people in RAP that I connect with outside of a scholarly setting and forge deep friendships with. Considering the RAP’s close proximity to Kittredge Field and other green spaces, I would definitely play games like ultimate frisbee, football, and soccer with others who live in Kittredge Hall. I also hope that people in the RAP enjoy playing video games every once in a while, because I would take anybody on in a Rocket League 1v1 match.

As I previously mentioned, one of the things that excites me the most about the Global Engineering RAP at CU is the collaborative environment that is fostered. At the Global Engineering RAP, I would meet plenty of students who are in the same classes as me, and it would be awesome to be able to work on homework and other projects with the people in the RAP. Being surrounded by the brightest engineering minds will expose me to new, practical ways of thinking that I never considered before.
Outside of the social aspect of RAP, it would be a wonderful experience to be able to use my skills as a studying engineer to assist communities in infrastructural crises. The problems faced in different parts of the world will surely motivate me to think critically and come up with creative solutions to unique problems, which will serve me well in my engineering career. Also, being in the Global Engineering RAP would be a constant reminder that the impact of engineering isn’t on paper with complicated formulas and expressions, but is rather seen in the real world, driving humanity forward.
