My parents are originally from Graz, Austria, and my family and I visit every summer for approximately one month. During the past 18 years of my life, I have been aware of the many cultures and opportunities outside of Colorado, where I was born and raised. I observe the ways of life of the diverse community within Europe, specifically Austria, where some of my extended family members work as engineers and get to travel frequently to work on projects. I've been lucky enough to see firsthand how different the various parts of the world are, and how each plays a crucial role in the process of creating a functional system.
I picture myself surrounded by those who have qualities that are both similar and completely different than my own. I see someone who is kind, yet speaks their mind about issues that bring out a certain passion that will always fuel their life. They should be enthusiastic about learning and solving global issues in need of attention. This person should be eager to learn about the world, care about others, the environment, and enjoy the outdoors. I imagine living down the hall from someone who has an international background or is bilingual in any language. I would want to learn their hobbies as well as teach them my own while respecting each other's boundaries in order to establish a lasting friendship.
I will contribute to the Global Engineering community with both my German-speaking background and the Spanish classes that I have been involved with since middle school. I have constantly been surrounded by diverse cultures and languages because of my experience abroad and my family has many international connections. My curiosity flourishes when learning about other people's experiences and making connections. The Global Engineering community is the perfect place for me to learn and improve my own skills. I have grown up with both Austrian and American influences which have impacted my own traits, goals, and ambitions. I believe that I will be a great addition to the Global Engineering community.
