My junior year began with the arrival of a new swimmer to my school and club team– an Italian exchange student named Ludovica. I approached her and introduced myself. Shortly after, I offered her a ride to an after-school practice. We soon established a routine of going to swim practice together every day, exchanging witty remarks about our days, engaging in light-hearted chit-chat, and harmonizing our voices to our favorite Shakira songs. Ludovica and I fostered a friendship built on cultural exchange– an Italian and a Venezuelan/American. Throughout her exchange year, I helped correct her English grammar and introduced her to new words. Meanwhile, she taught me about her culture and emphasized the importance of family traditions. I discovered that Italian and Spanish had much in common, and soon enough, I downloaded Duolingo to learn Italian. Our connection is now divided by 5060 miles but persists through constant online communication. It is a living example of how much I can learn from others by keeping an open mind and embracing people from different backgrounds.
The concept of diversity has also played a significant role throughout my life. By having the opportunity to visit family out of the country in Israel and the Dominican Republic, I have seen life outside of my local community. Being Venezuelan and Jewish, I've been actively involved in both these communities. However, I have made countless friends from varying backgrounds and countries, including Ludovica, whom I mentioned previously, and with whom I had to navigate a language barrier. I’ve learned to constantly push myself out of my comfort zone, as I never know when an unfamiliar face can lead to a strong bond. I value equality and promoting a welcoming environment with others who have diverse perspectives and opinions.
At Boulder, I aspire to form meaningful relationships with people with whom I will share experiences of academic and cultural exchange. Being a part of RAP, I can collaborate to find innovative solutions and drive positive change in my community.

The ideal person I would want to live down the hall is a driven student with many interests and passions, someone from whom I can learn new things, whether that be cultural, academic, or personal.
Living in Florida, I often find myself outdoors soaking up Vitamin D, whether at club swim practices or the beach. I aim to stay active at CU Boulder by hiking and enjoying the natural beauty in the area. A friend who shares my enthusiasm for exploring the mesmerizing scenery of Boulder, whether on a hike or simply sitting outside, is precisely who I am looking for.
When dining out, I am always eager to try new dishes. I want to surround myself with individuals who can introduce me to new hobbies and activities or join me in trying new things. At Boulder, I aspire to become involved in several clubs, such as the Ralphie's Green Stampede, the Alpine Club, or the Ceramics Club.
Over the past eight years, my passion for swimming has grown exponentially, and I have become intrinsically motivated to achieve success. Through countless practices, I developed resilience, determination, and a strong work ethic. I aim to apply these attributes and skills to all my future endeavors. A neighbor who shares this drive and positive attitude is what I desire. Being with someone who knows what they want and will work to get it is the environment I want.
At Boulder, I am committed to building a network of supportive friends. Similar to my current life, I am determined to find my place with the right people at my side. I would love for the person across the hall to be outgoing and social, opening opportunities for us to meet new people and create a community within the campus for ourselves.

I strongly resonate with the saying, “You become who you surround yourself with.” For this reason, I want to associate myself with academically inclined students and form connections with as many people as possible. During my time at Boulder, I will seize every opportunity and take advantage of all the unique resources available.
Academically, Global Engineering RAP provides the advantage of allowing the students involved to have priority enrollment in many Global Engineering courses. This advantage will benefit my education as the GEEN 1400 First-Year Engineering Projects Course is a necessary class for most majors, meaning I can ensure a class that will best suit me. Additionally, being a student in this class will allow me to surround myself with others interested in cultural and linguistic programming and community. This will allow me to learn from others who, like myself, are looking to discover something new, whether that be an education or technical skill.
Throughout my next four years, I want to form relationships with students, staff, and teachers that have an impact. In these classes, I want to work not only with people who are academically motivated but also learn from them. I know the value of hearing everyone with an open mind to share ideas, opinions, and perspectives. I regularly bring these intentions into my youth group (BISY) board meetings and Sunday school. During our meetings, I listen and learn from others without negativity or judgment. Meanwhile, when it is my turn, I share my thoughts and receive feedback. I know how to communicate with my peers so everyone feels heard, creating a stronger relationship within our group. I will use this behavior in classes when meeting others at Williams North Village and even on a daily basis.
Having a strong-knit community of faculty, staff, and students whom I can go to for questions and advice will not only serve as personal support but also advance my education. Living and socializing with others in Williams Village North will keep me motivated and determined. Sharing this space with other students who are seeking to go above and beyond acts as a constant source of encouragement. This will foster collaboration and teamwork, an essential skill that will benefit me as an engineer and person.
Being a member of Global Engineering RAP will provide me with unique perspectives and broaden my understanding of the worldwide challenges engineers face. It will also increase my global awareness and understanding of languages and cultures. I believe that the diversity of this organization will teach lessons and skills that will be multi-beneficial. This community will not only contribute to my education as an engineer but also foster personal growth. I am eager to build connections to enrich my college experience at CU Boulder.
