I’ve moved around a few times in my life. I lived in Utah, Wyoming, and most recently, Texas. Through living in these different places, I have learned about different religions and cultures, and I have met various people. I grew up in the country. I learned to ride horses, I owned chickens, and I lived in a very tight-knit community. I learned to love the outdoors. I spent much of my time camping and fishing. When I moved to Texas in 2022, I was able to experience life in the city. After moving, I was met with a more diverse range of cultures. I was able to make a wide range of friends from different ethnicities and backgrounds. Many of my friends have been teaching me their language, helping me cook cultural recipes, and inviting me into their culture. I have met people from places such as Mexico, India, Germany, Chad, etc, and with each interaction, I gained knowledge of their culture and their views as a person. I have also had travel experiences that have impacted my perspective. When I was in eighth grade, I was elected by my teacher for the Junior Young Leaders National Conference. Through this program, I met a wide range of people from all across the country who taught me about their perspectives and allowed me to improve my confidence, social interactions, and leadership skills. This summer, I spent a few months in North Carolina, getting my Private Pilot License. I met with different kids my age from all across the country. During my time in North Carolina, I learned about working as a team to solve problems, how to mediate conflicts as they arose due to varying views, and I learned to appreciate a few new cultures.
I want someone I’ve never met before. I want someone unique. I want someone with differing opinions to mine, who can challenge my views. I want someone who can open my mind to a different view of the world or a different culture. I want someone open-minded, who is willing to help a friend out; someone I can study with, someone who will help me grow as a person. I want someone who wants to learn as much as I do. I want someone who wants to go to college not only for an education but also to improve their character.
I want to be a member of the Global Engineering RAP at CU Boulder because I believe this program will give me a network, a different perspective, communication skills, and a community to help me grow and learn more about the world around me. Not only will I have a community to study with and learn as an engineer, but I also will have a community to learn as a person. I will be able to experience different perspectives and cultures. I am a very social individual, and I love group activities and opportunities to meet new people. I am always willing to lend a hand or an ear to anyone. I have lived in a few different places and I have a lifetime of experiences under my belt, allowing me to bring a unique perspective to the table. The biggest contribution I will bring to the community is an open mind.
