I have not had many opportunities to travel to culturally enriching places, but I was an active member of Spanish Honor Society in high school. This provided ne with a number opportunities to explore the culture. Many times I went to authentic restaurants and ordered the food in Spanish. Additionally there was a Dia de los Muertos celebration that gave me insight into the holiday that I will forever be grateful for. I hope to further my relationship with this cultural among many others.
I hope to down the hall from someone who did not grow up exactly the same way I did. I have been intrigued by stories I've from peers who grew up in households different from mine, especially when these differences stem from a culture different from the one I grew up with. I hope the person down the hall would have similar views on school. Those being that schoolwork is important and should be a top priority, but that there is more to be done. These things include building relationships with peers and connecting to new people through new experiences.
As a part of the Global Engineering RAP I hope to learn how to put the knowledge that I will gain to work in the community. I have limited global experience and though I intend to gain more of that I also to intend to help the local community as well. Right now in Denver there is a homeless crisis that need attention. Due to recent spikes of inflation the homeless population has significantly increased. The issue can be solved with the proper teamwork and unique thinking. Through the RAP I hope to gain that unique knowledge that can assist in building solutions to this problem and many others like this one.
