As an Indian American, I have the opportunity to travel to India every 3-6 years. This has allowed me to expose myself to a different culture and helped broaden my perspectives. Additionally, I was able to see first hand local challenges that can be benefited by advancements through engineering. Such challenges include access to clean water, scarce resources, and challenges caused by overpopulation. Finally, this travel has taught me about adapting and adjusting to a new environment and prepared me for future endeavors into new communities around the world.
As a member of the Global Engineering RAP, I would want to live down the hall from someone who is open to listening to mine and others' stories about why and how they want to make an impact on the world through engineering. Additionally, I would want them to be a source of support and encouragement as I plan to be for them. As members of the same community with similar goals, we should be able to look to each other for advice and be able to give encouragement to each other in order to help each other achieve our goals. Finally, they should be open to collaboration so that we can build our relationship and strengthen the overall community.
As a future engineer, I want to be able make a difference and take advantage of the opportunity I have to make a positive impact on society and on the world. Specifically as a biomedical engineer, I want to use engineering to help advance the healthcare system in all parts of the world. I believe that the Global Engineering RAP at CU Boulder is the first step in taking me there by giving me my first insight into engineering in a global perspective. This community of peers with similar desires will help motivate and inspire me to reach these goals. Additionally, as a member of this community I plan to contribute by providing support and actively listening to my peers stories and goals as well as collaborating with them in order to share knowledge and better our experience as a part of this RAP.
