Biomedical engineering

During the summer of 2022, my family took a long-awaited trip to Europe. I was eager to explore new cities, new food, and new customs, and to apply my years of French language learning. During the trip however, I became seriously ill. We researched medical care options and found that the nearest clinic or hospital was very far. As a student, I know that learning in the classroom cannot always represent the true extent of what is happening in the world. I have learned about the lack of accessibility to medical care in rural areas, but to be sick and not know if there is a place I can go for help altered how I viewed this issue. I hope that through CU Boulder’s Global Engineering RAP, I will be able to participate in more eye-opening experiences like this one, so that I have a broader perspective on a variety of global issues, not just medical accessibility, and their potential solutions.
Academically speaking, I would want to live with others who care about the closeness of our community. We should create an environment to support one another in both our academic and professional pursuits, as well as our personal experiences. Socially speaking, I look forward to meeting my roommates and floormates, and forming relationships which will last beyond our time in this program. As someone with very typically “nerdy” interests, I hope that I can find a group of people with similarly varied passions.
CU Boulder’s Global Engineering RAP provides the opportunity to be a part of a supportive group of fellow students with shared interests and objectives. I hope to participate in this program to prepare myself to be a respectful and knowledgeable professional. I believe that with what I learn as a part of this community, I will be able to enter the field of biomedical engineering with an in-depth understanding, not only of the subject matter, but also the ethical, socioeconomic, and racial complexities of medical care in this country and around the world. I would like to be an active member of this community and build lasting connections with fellow engineering students.
