When visiting family in England I am able to hear and discuss the vast political differences between me and my family despite our countries being so similar. I have also learned of the many customs of and cultural traditions of my family and how other people view or relate to it.
When traveling abroad I have also noticed the economic differences in Europe, one difference in particular would be their payment. Cash is a necessity and is often preferred over credit. Many countries also round their prices to the nearest euro/pound in order to make the use of cash more pleasurable. I find that even Mexico shares this difference and that America is often the outlier when it comes to minor economical factors like the material used for major bills. I think that my travels have prepared me to be able to converse and be respectful of others culture and traditions.
I would want the person down the hall from me to be vastly different from me culturally in order so i can learn form them as well as teach them of my cultural traditions, habits and food. I hope that they would be open to trying and learning about my traditions and we incorporate the best aspects of our cultures into our lives. I would want this person to be focused on their work and strive to achieve something greater than merely graduation. I am fascinated by the intimacies of foreign cultures and laws and I would hope this person would be equally willing to listen and learn form others around us
I want to become a member because i crave and environment where the intermingling of cultures and unique perspectives is encouraged. Where others come from unique backgrounds and experiences that has re4sulted in different perspectives of not only politics and culture but rather food, activities, sports, games, and schoolwork. i have found from my experience working with several Chinese and Mexican immigrants at a local restaurant. that the best way to breakdown cultural and language barriers is to show genuine interest in their lives and culture. And from this experience i have learned countless things pertaining to their respective cultures that we have become a family. I got to experience my first Chinese New Year this year and although I couldn't always understand what everyone was saying i was still able to contribute and learn form the experience. i think i can contribute not only a unique perspective myself but also the perspectives I have learned from my colleges and family
