I do not have travel or study abroad experience that prepared me for the Global Engineering RAP. Although I don’t have any experience, I researched the Global Engineering page to learn more about it. Knowing the mission of Global Engineers has prepared me for the Global Engineering RAP because Computer Science is an incredible tool for envisioning a world where everyone has access to necessities. Necessities such as potable water, food, housing, good health, and potentially even a secure job. With the growth of human technology, computers have become advanced beyond our imagination. If used efficiently, we could find accessible and affordable solutions to global poverty. I hope to have more travel experiences through the RAP in the future.
The person I would want to live down the hall from would be open-minded, passionate, philanthropic, eager for knowledge, outgoing, adventurous, respectful, and a team player. These traits are crucial for engineers because we must be able to work as a team to become something greater than just ourselves. I would want this person to help me when I am down, be able to sprout new ideas in my head, and want to use their skills to help those in need. This ideal human being is who I strive to be. I want to be able to help everyone around me and be someone others can trust.
I want to be a member of the Global Engineering RAP because I will be around other like-minded engineers who want to stop global poverty. This RAP can teach me how I, a Computer Scientist, can work with others as a team. I am very passionate about Computer Science because I will be able to build tools where the only limit I will have is my imagination. I can learn to think about how my programs can positively or negatively affect the world. I am unsure what to specialize in as an engineer, but this RAP has made me curious. I want to learn more about how I can be an engineer working to change the world. Coming from an immigrant household, I didn't always have an easy life. Seeing a community committed to helping the poor inspired me to want to be a part of this growing community. Non Academically, This RAP will be great for me to make friendships. I am sure everyone admitted is going to be outgoing and caring. I am also a concurrent enrollment student. With my knowledge, I can contribute to the residential community by assisting someone with a class I have already taken. Even if I haven't, the skills I have learned could help provide a new perspective. Since this is an engineer's residential hall, I am at an even higher advantage in helping someone, unlike in traditional housing, where the chances of me being able to help someone drastically decrease. This RAP will be crucial to my advancement as an engineer who can work with others as a team to solve the Global Engineers mission.
