As students start looking ahead to finals, the Center for Western Civilization, Thought & Policy is winding down our semester's events with two renowned CTP guests: Michael Franc (Nov. 29th) and Mackubin Thomas Owens (Dec. 7th). We hope you'll join us for one of these last two events. And, as you look ahead to the new year, consider taking a class with our Visiting Scholar in Conservative Thought & Policy or one of our Scholars in Residence next semester. Please stay tuned for our January newsletter, where we'll provide more information on all the exciting events we have planned for Spring 2018. Interesting Statistics from the CWCTP

  • Since 2015, the CWCTP has held 31 events reaching over 2,500 event participants.
  • Eight additional events are planned for Spring 2018 alone, including a retrospective on President Trump's first year in office and a reunion of all five Visiting Scholar in Conservative Thought & Policy (April 9th). Stay tuned for more details! 
  • Prominent guests have included: author Rod Dreher, author Thomas Frank, Prof. Kiron Skinner, Katharine Jefferts Schori (First Female Bishop of the Episcopalian Church), and Reihan Salam (Executive Editor at the National Review). These speakers represent viewpoints from conservative to liberal and many points in between. 
  • Last year's Visiting Scholar Francis Beckwith conducted 13 outreach visits to organizations across the state of Colorado, from appearances on the Americhicks Radio Show to Archdiocese of Denver. This year's scholar Prof. Robert Kaufman has already conducted seven outreach speaking engagements, from Carbondale to Steamboat Springs and along the front range. He has six more planned. 
  • The Center awarded more than $24,000 to faculty members to support the study of Western Civilization at CU Boulder. These awards supported academic lectures, graduate student professional development, the production of a new play, the Mediterranean Studies program, and the Medieval Studies program.
  • The Center awarded $15,000 in student support in summer 2017. 
  • The Center's Undergraduate Fellows program continues to attract intellectually diverse students across CU Boulder and provides a unique venue for serious intellectual inquiry and professional development. There are currently 16 students in the program, which was founded in Sept 2016.
  • The Center has grown to include the Visiting Scholar in Conservative Thought & Policy, three Scholars in Residence, three CU Boulder Faculty Fellows, and two CU Boulder graduate fellows
  • Visiting Scholars in Conservative Thought and Policy have taught 374 students over 18 courses, covering seven disciplines.
