This year, we received a small grant from The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County. The grant was to support the organizing of an LGBTQ+ Educator’s Collective and to bring together queer and trans educators around community and joy. Being in schools and classrooms can take a toll on our mental and emotional wellness. Often, queer and trans educators are one of the only LGTBQ+ staff members in their building which can create added stress and a lack of community.
We loved hosting events that brought together educators from Boulder County and beyond. Our first event was an online gathering, with a coffee and donut pick up beforehand, and we hosted about 12-15 educators. The second event was an in person happy hour at a park in Longmont with about 15 educators. In the fall, we hosted a welcome back gathering in Boulder and opened it up to families and loved ones! We had about 20 attendees.
All of the events were laid back and full of gratitude, humor, and connection. We look forward to continuing to build community with this group! If you'd like to join, reach out to us with our contact form.
