Hope

"There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope." – Bernard Williams

As a new year begins, many of us see it as a time of promise, an opportunity to plan, create and even adopt new, healthier habits. These traditions are a symbol of our capacity for hope and the ways in which it enriches our lives. With longer days ahead and the start of a new year, seek out ways to bring more light into our days and more hope into our being.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -

I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers by Emily Dickinson

The Artists: An Inheritance of Hope

Helanius J. Wilkins, a multihyphenate choreographer, framed his artistic journey as an ongoing conversation rooted in his Louisiana beginnings.

His evolving work, The Conversation Series: Stitching the Geopolitical Quilt to Re-Body Belonging, debuted its third iteration in Boulder last fall. Though the project demanded much of him, Wilkins embraced the responsibility of honoring his artistic inheritance while creating a legacy for future generations.
