The Intra-University Transfer (IUT) Advising Resource page provides information for Academic Advisors and Coaches to support current undergraduate students who would like to change, add, or drop a degree program involving two different colleges/schools/programs within CU Boulder. Intra-University Transfer (IUT) Advising Steps
- Assist students in learning more about their intended college/school/program
- Run a "What If" Degree Audit with the student
- Explore the CU Boulder Program Catalog and sample four-year plans
- Create an IUT Intent Tag
- Complete an IUT Intent Tag Form for any student with an interest in an IUT
- Access student IUT progress on the IUT Dashboard (updated every Monday)
- Encourage students to prepare for IUT Meetings/Workshop
- Demonstrate the "Meet with a Different Advisor" tile in Buff Portal Advising
- Introduce the IUT Guide, IUT General webpage and the IUT college/school/program webpage
- Support students as they consider their IUT fit
- Inform students with Veteran and Military Affairs, International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS), and the Herbst Academic Center to meet with their advisors
- Share financial resources relevant to the IUT process such as, Bursar's Office, Office of Financial Aid, and CU Boulder Scholarships
- Assist students in creating a parallel plan
- Discuss similar majors with the CU Boulder Majors Card Source resources
- Propose minor and certificate options
- Advise students to apply as early as possible
- Explain that students to apply by the Priority Consideration Deadlines for full consideration of their IUT Application
- Assist students in determining when they are eligible for admission or “On Track” status
Intra-University Transfer (IUT) Intent Tag
CU Boulder Academic Advisors and Coaches can complete the Intra-University Transfer (IUT) Intent Tag Form to highlight current CU Boulder undergraduate students who have indicated a future interest to complete an IUT. The IUT Intent Tag can be added, removed, or changed with a brief OnBase form, available through this webpage and in the “Links” section in the Buff Portal Advising fly-out panel. An overview of IUT Intent Tag data is available through the IUT Dashboard.
Advisors should tag any student indicating an intention to enter a college/school/program by:
- Enrolling in IUT prerequisite courses
- Raising their GPA to meet an IUT requirement
- Attending an information or workshop
- Contacting an advisor in their intended field of study
- Declaring a dual degree/licensure program

Intra-University Transfer (IUT) Dashboard
Access the IUT Dashboard to interact with data from IUT Applications and IUT Intent Tags. The IUT Dashboard is a useful way to gain an overview of IUT student activity and support prospective IUT students.
