Alumni Lecture with Jen Lewin and Eric Schweikardt
January 27, 2014 5:47pm
Jen Lewin of Jen Lewin Studio is a local artist who "has been creating large, immersive, interactive art pieces for the public. From interactive sound and light sculptures that inspire people into play, to woven fiber video curtains that reflect movement, or giant, robotic, ethereal moths that dance based on human touch." Jen credits her training as an architect in the ENVD program for influencing her work. "As a trained architect, Lewin’s pieces are often the scale of buildings and rooms. She creates experiences and environments that are both part of, and integrated into, a physical space."
Eric Schweikardt founded and runs a local toy robot company called Modular Robotics. Eric says of his work, "My research is focused on explaining, representing and improving the design of robotic systems. I use my background in design and computation, combined with knowledge of robotics and rapid prototyping methods, to explore the space of robot design by building real, physical systems."
ENVD Alum Michelle Wheatley Lee Won Bicycle Rack Design Competition
December 28, 2013
The piece, created by local environmental designer Michelle Lee, is composed of half-inch thick pieces of steel that have been rolled into shape and coated with a specialty, solid-surface material called Corian. The inspiration for its wavy form, Lee said, is the vision of cyclists taking curves on their course through the foothills west of Boulder during the Aug. 25, 2012 Pro Cycling Challenge stage, dubbed by organizers at the time as the "biggest day in American pro cycling history". Read the entire article in the Daily Camera. Michelle currently works at 505 Design in Boulder.
