Review by Samuel McCormick (2001)

I have found this to be one of the most informative web resources dealing with the theoretical precepts of Walter Benjamin.  Embedded within it are a series of translation sites, a chronology of Benjamin’s most significant works, some biographical fragments regarding his life, and a handful of Benjamin’s essays.  While these materials can certainly help the communication theorist situate Benjamin’s thought within the larger sphere of communication research, the site’s most useful aspect is arguably what it points to: the first page alone shoots the viewer to resources on such theorists as Holderlin, Schlegel, Hegel, Marcuse, and Franz Neumann.  Like Benjamin, each of these theorists did most of his work on the fringe of communication theory, a position that often lends itself as an effective critical tool.
