If you are currently a degree-seeking student and you have enrolled in a CU Boulder course within the past 12 months, you are automatically enabled to enroll for Continuing Education courses through Buff Portal.
Instructions for Winter Session Registration:
First, follow the Buff Portal steps to add classes to your shopping cart. Use the Search Classes panel to specify the term: Spring 2025 and under Advanced Search select session: CE Winter Session, then click Search Classes. Once you've done that:
- Log in to Buff Portal, if you’re not already logged in.
- On the class registration guide card, complete your preregistration items in the “Prepare" section, if needed, then click on “Go to Enrollment” in the “Enroll” section.
- On the Class Search page, scroll down to the bottom of the menu on the left to access your shopping cart. Click on “My Primary Cart” and then “Continue to Enrollment”.
- Tick the checkbox to the right of the class title you wish to add and then click on “Submit Registration” at the bottom.
If the enrollment is successful, you will see a confirmation stating, “This class has been added to your schedule”. If you do not see a confirmation message, you will see an error message; read the description for details. To review your schedule, return to the Buff Portal tab on your browser and go to the “Review” section of the Class Registration Guide card and click on the “View Classes Card Group”. If you have questions, contact the Continuing Education Enrollment Services Team at firstname.lastname@example.org or 303-492-5148.
Students on Academic Suspension
Students on academic suspension may enroll in Winter Session courses. To enroll, students must request enrollment by submitting a Course Request Form.
Please note: Students on academic suspension may not use a Winter Session class to reinstate to main campus in time for the spring semester. Because Winter Session is part of the spring semester, your college will not review your case for reinstatement until all spring grades have posted at the end of the spring semester.
If you are a senior close to graduation, please be aware that Winter Session credits count toward the spring semester. Therefore, your graduation term will be spring, not fall. In other words, if your Winter Session class is the last class you need to complete your degree, your degree will be awarded at the end of the spring semester. Please work with your academic advisor or college if receiving a Letter of Completion would be helpful when you finish your Winter Session course.
If you are interested in enrolling in CU Boulder Winter Session courses without pursuing a degree at the university, you may do so by term-activating for the spring semester in Buff Portal or by contacting Continuing Education at 303-492-5148.
If you enroll in winter classes and change your mind, you may be assessed a financial penalty. See the dates and deadlines section or call Continuing Education at 303-492-5148 for more information.
If you are new to CU as a nondegree student, complete and submit the Enrollment Application for Continuing Education (available in summer 2024).
- Be sure to choose Entry Term – Spring 2025 when completing the application.
You will receive an email confirming receipt of your application.
If approved, you will receive a student identification number to activate your Identikey and search/enroll in courses via Buff Portal.
Newly admitted undergraduate students for the Spring 2025 semester, whether transfer or first-year, are not eligible to enroll in a Winter Session course. These fully online courses follow a very different schedule than a traditional CU Boulder course. Incoming students are encouraged to begin their CU Boulder experience with full-semester Spring 2025 coursework. Please meet with your academic advisor if you have additional questions.
