He was the founder director and Managing Director of Amanz’ abantu Services since 1997. Amanz’ abantu specialises in the provision of water and sanitation infrastructure and services to poor and developing communities.

The Eastern Cape Province of South Africa is one of the poorest provinces and has a population of over 8 million people. It includes the former “homelands” of the Transkei and Ciskei, which were both independent self-governing homelands under the pre-1994 apartheid structures. As a result, the people residing in these under developed regions were largely without basic water and sanitation services in 1994. The last 25 years have seen a concerted effort by the South African Government to roll out services to the previously unserved, and Amanz’abantu Services was specifically created to partner with national and local government to provide water and sanitation infrastructure to serve the developing communities of the Eastern Cape.

Amanz’ abantu, is committed to further both institutional reform, job creation and local economic development, and this is clearly demonstrated through the work of it’s subsidiary, Impilo Yabantu Services (Pty) Ltd”, which was started in 2009, specially to provide WASH services to poor communities through a social franchise utilising small locally based service providers.
