Lakhdar Boukerrou

Dr. Boukerrou currently serves at the Chief of Party/Regional Director of the USAID WA-WASH Program.  In his current position as the Regional Director of the $24million USAID WA-WASH Program based in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, Dr. Boukerrou manages this regional program with activities in several West African countries.  The program is focusing on water, sanitation, food security, climate changes and institutional and human capacity building.  He also holds appointments as Research Assistant Professor, Earth and Environment, Co-Director of the International Water Group at the Institute of Water and the Environment, and Affiliate Faculty, African and African Diaspora Studies at Florida International University.  Dr. Boukerrou has extensive experience, both in the US and abroad, in international development, project management, training programs design, monitoring and evaluation as well as agricultural and environmental management.  Dr. Boukerrou has managed programs/projects in several countries including: Egypt, Turkey, Algeria, Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Niger, and the United States.

 

Dr. Boukerrou has served at the President of the Center for Agricultural Research and Training in Agriculture a company he founded to serve the research needs of Fortune 500 companies and the training needs of international organizations, federal government agencies, and foreign governments.  As a scientist, he implemented over 500 agricultural and environmental research projects both in the US and overseas with private, academic and public institutions.  He used his extensive experience in training to develop numerous training programs funded by organizations such as UNEP, IFAD, USAID, and USDA for participants from Asia, Central and South America, Africa and Eastern Europe representing some 30 countries.

 

Dr. Boukerrou also served as a Research Professor in the Department of Geosciences at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Adjunct Professor in the College of Business where he taught an MBA course on Global Environmental Management.  As a Contract Manager/Research Coordinator at the Center for Environmental Studies at FAU his main focus was on managing and implementing environmental research projects both for the private and public sector in the US and abroad.

 

As a consultant, he provided services to the Islamic Development Bank, the World Bank, The Global Mechanism of the United Nations, the UN Global Environment Facility, academic institutions and a number of Fortune 500 companies and small businesses in the US and abroad.  He served on over 30 Boards of civic and professional organizations including Advisory Boards for academic institutions.

 

Dr. Boukerrou earned his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.
