Kelly Fenson-Hood

Kelly Fenson-Hood has a decade of experience working, studying and conducting research in the areas of public health, global health and water/sanitation/hygiene (WASH). She also has a unique vertical specialization in behavior-change communication. Kelly holds an MA in Mass Communication, with an emphasis on behavior-change from the University of Denver. She also holds a BA in International Health Education from the University of Colorado, Denver. Since 2009, she’s worked on WASH issues in the urban slum, Kibera, located in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2013, she became the Executive Director of Power of Hope Kibera (pohk.org), an organization started by the local community. She successfully established 501(c)(3) status through fiscal sponsorship in the US. Kelly is the principal creator of the conceptual model, the Micro-Enterprise for Behavior-Change Communication Model (ME-BCC Model), which utilizes market-based approaches to promote health-specific behavioral change. The first application of the model was implemented in Kibera with soap and handwashing. Prior to her position at Power of Hope Kibera, Kelly worked at Stanford University as a research manager, managing major WASH research studies around the world.
