The CU Boulder Connection

Polaris Electro-Optics Inc. was co-founded by CU Boulder researchers Noel Clark (Physics), Joe MacLennan (Physics), and Matt Glaser (Physics), together with a former student in their lab, Cory Pecinovsky and CEO Jason Sickler. Polaris’ technology uses ferroelectric nematic liquid crystals to offer the highest speed and most energy-efficient integrated photonics products for applications in both communications and computing. Polaris closed a $3 million seed financing round in 2023. In 2021, the team completed the I-Corps Hub West Research-to-Market program—by Venture Partners at CU Boulder—and won the Lab Venture Challenge (LVC) and in 2022, they completed the Ascent Deep Tech Accelerator and pitched at Destination Startup.
