2.4—Integrated Imaging and Mechanobiology Platform for Multiscale Soft Tissue and Cellular Characterization
This suite of patented technologies transforms how we measure and understand the mechanics of soft tissues and cells, from whole joints to individual living cells. Two MRI-compatible platforms enable real-time, noninvasive assessment of tissue elasticity and cartilage mechanics using advanced modeling techniques—including stretched exponential relaxation and magnetic resonance elastography (MRE)—to deliver high-sensitivity biomarkers for diagnosing and monitoring musculoskeletal diseases. These systems integrate with existing MRI infrastructure and offer strong partnership potential with imaging leaders such as Siemens and GE Healthcare. Complementing this, the TENSCell platform brings powerful mechanobiology capabilities to the lab, using a low-cost, 3D-printed device to precisely stretch live cells while capturing high-resolution imaging of cellular responses. Together, these innovations unlock new possibilities in orthopedics, sports medicine, drug discovery and tissue engineering.
