The Research and Mentoring Program on Sustainable building includes the following activities:

  • Lectures on sustainability and engineering by University of Colorado Boulder faculty
  • Workshop on sustainable building materials (straw bale construction)
  • Start to finish residential solar install with Grid Alternatives (a solar non-profit organization in Denver)
  • Engineering field research (energy audits and indoor air quality monitoring) in Tribal homes at N. Cheyenne Reservation
  • Mentoring talks by AISES professionals (American Indian Science and Engineering Society) from Colorado, Pine Ridge, and Rosebud.
  • Engineering design challenges (design and assembly of a mold sampler for indoor air quality monitoring)
  • Engineering research in journals, online, and other publications
  • Development of research abstracts and posters for presentation at the National Science Foundation’s annual Emerging Researchers Network in Washington DC in 2016Â
