Mike Barnett is on a mission. The long-time rock drummer—recognizable in the halls of Imig Music by his long hair and all-black attire—wants students at CU Boulder to recognize that they have a role to play in the world around them. That they have a voice that can—and should—be a part of the national cultural and political dialogue.

CU Boulder is No. 2 in geosciences in global rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report. The rankings represent the 1,000 best universities in the world across​ 65 countries.

The School of Education and Department of Ethnic Studies have partnered to offer a new program that will allow future teachers to earn a bachelor’s degree in ethnic studies and a master’s degree in education in five years. The new “4+1 Ethnic Studies and Education Concurrent Degree Program” (BA/MA) will begin admitting students in spring 2017.

The Research & Innovation Office, previously the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, creates impact by cultivating and supporting collaboration, transformation and leadership across CU Boulder. Have you ever felt clueless when writing a paper? Are you worried that your paper is made up of a series of un-cohesive thoughts jumbled together? If the only thing you know about writing comes from what gets highlighted in red in Microsoft Office, then The Writing Center is your new best friend.

More than 100 middle and high school students from Boulder County are joining 35 undergraduates Friday to tour campus and participate in workshops with community and campus organizations to address public issues impacting their communities. The students are part of the Public Achievement (PA) program, a youth-led civic engagement initiative promoting student voice and transformative change.

CU Boulder faculty, students and staff are undergoing an initiative to evaluate the university learning management system, Desire2Learn, to determine whether it meets CU Boulder’s teaching and learning needs as part of an array of digital instructional tools.

Building suspense, scaring readers and incorporating gore, disgust and revulsion into fiction plots. Students will examine these elements of writing during a Winter Session course that's open to the public, led by Stephen Graham Jones, acclaimed horror writer and professor. Part of the class will take place at the famous Stanley Hotel, said by some to be haunted.

The campus community is once again embarking on an accreditation review by the nonprofit Higher Learning Commission (HLC), an independent corporation founded in 1895 as one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States.
