CU Boulder Walk and Run Club
Reasons to join
Improve your well-being with regular physical activity.
Meet and get to know other staff members in Student Life.
Be a part of a supportive community.
Meetups
The group will meet twice weekly for 40 minutes, either from 11:10-11:50 a.m. or 12:10-12:50 p.m. This allows staff to use lunchtime or wellness hours to run or walk as far as they would like, as well as accommodate alternative work schedules and hybrid schedules.
Location and routes
We'll meet outside the Weathertech Cafe in the C4C and leave promptly at 11:10 a.m. or 12:10 p.m. Suggested routes will be available for various distances on campus in the Boulder area. These routes will focus on low vehicle traffic and well-maintained pathways.
Pace groups
As the group is intended to be inclusive and accommodate all staff members and their goals, participants will be able to divide into groups at different paces. All groups will have a no-drop policy, meaning the group leader(s) will ensure that everybody has someone to participate with and that nobody gets left behind or participates alone.
Safety
To prioritize the well-being and safety of all participants, the following measures will be implemented:
Orientation: We’ll host an orientation session for interested and returning participants at the beginning of each semester and summer.
Emergency protocols and waiver: First-time participants must sign a waiver and will receive a safety document or email, including instructions on contacting campus police or emergency services.
Buddy system: We’ll encourage participants to exercise in pairs or small groups and the no-drop policy ensures that everybody can run or walk with someone.
Weather awareness: We’ll monitor weather conditions and have a protocol for canceling in the case of extreme weather (e.g., storms, high heat or icy conditions).
Suggested items: Participants will receive a list of suggested items to have available during their activity. This includes water, nutrition, sun protection, footwear with appropriate traction and walking/hiking poles if needed.
Meet Christopher!

Hi Everyone!
My name is Christopher Mellott, and I’m excited to share that I started the Division of Student Life Running and Walking Group here at CU Boulder. Within the division, I work in Student Conduct & Conflict Resolution, where I support students through conversations focused on care, concern and accountability.
Outside of work, my partner and I are raising a toddler—who loves joining runs in the stroller—and an almost 11-year-old dog named Diesel. I’m also a certified running coach, dedicated to helping individuals integrate running into their lives in a sustainable, empowering way. As a lifelong runner, I recently completed a 100K trail race in Fruita and a 50K beer relay in Denver.
Running has always helped me recharge, stay focused, solve complex problems and connect with others. That’s why I started this group: to create a welcoming space where staff across the division can build community beyond their day-to-day roles. Whether you want to enjoy a half-hour walk or go for a few miles at a conversational pace, this group is for you. It’s a no-drop group, meaning no one gets left behind—everyone is welcome and supported.
I’ll be at every meet-up, so come by, get some fresh air and movement, and build connections with colleagues. We meet outside the WeatherTech doors on the C4C patio. Hope to see you there!
