Join the Career Community of Practice to support student career success

Group Talking
The Career Community of Practice (CCOP) is a community of staff and faculty united by an interest in supporting CU students’ career-preparedness. According to 50+ years of longitudinal research out of UCLA, "positive career outcomes" is one of the top two reasons students attend college. According to 2021 graduation data, 76% of CU Buffs entered the workforce upon graduation. The CCOP is committed to helping ensure students graduate from CU with the career options they came here for.

Facilitated by Kristi Wasson, assistant director of Career Services’ Comprehensive Career team, the CCOP includes staff and faculty from various colleges, divisions and departments across campus. Some members work in career offices; others have zero career background. All are welcome!

Here’s what you can expect from the 2023-24 CCOP:

  • Two interactive virtual gatherings per semester focused on relevant career topics and resources.
    • Sept. 14 | 2-3 p.m. | Artificial Intelligence Meets the Future of Work: You’ve read the news. Artificial intelligence is everywhere and recent developments in AI are impacting many areas of life. In this interactive session, we will explore some of the many applications AI has on the world of work. From building application materials and answering interview questions, to changes in recruiting and the skills employers are seeking, there are so many ways that AI will have a critical impact on the future of work. Come learn and share your own insights!
    • Nov. 16 | 2-3 p.m. | When Fixing Isn’t Actually Helping: Using Coach-Like Skills to Help Students Discover, Learn and Grow: “I can help you fix that.” How many times do we jump in to help a student with a problem before intentionally exploring and engaging with the student to find out what they want and need and how they can help themselves? In this session, we’ll discuss recognizing and resisting the fixing instinct and how we can all practice and use some coach-like strategies and skills to help students by creating space for exploration and providing opportunities for student agency and resilience while resisting our own (well-known, human) urge to fix.
    • Spring 2024: Dates and topics TBD
  • One or two newsletters per semester with information about career resources, events, internships/experiential learning opportunities and more to share with your students.
  • One workshop in May focused on you and your personal/professional development.
