Student Affairs commitment committee updates
Shared Services Committee
The Financial & Shared Services Commitment Committee has completed a full evaluation of the current state of translation and interpreter non-native language services for SA staff and created recommendations for moving forward to enhance the availability and equity of these services within the division. The co-chairs will be presenting the final business case to the Student Affairs cabinet in early February for final decisions on recommendations. Future committee actions will be determined by cabinet decisions regarding this topic. All questions or comments regarding the committee’s activities are encouraged and can be directed to Kelly Smith and Connie Alejos.
Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice Committee
The Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice committee has been intentional with our efforts over the past year. During this past year, we successfully:
- Organized and hosted racial identity caucuses for Student Affairs staff to come together and have conversations around anti-Black racism.
- Established a group of facilitators that could support future dialogues.
- Established two sub-working groups: Education and Training Development, and Caucus and Dialogue Group Development.
- Collaborated with Student Affairs on communication to the division.
As we look forward to spring 2021, our goals include:
- HR collaboration to address Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) training from the Division of Student Affairs.
- Partner with the Employee Engagement Committee to develop resources for our frontline staff that can’t access division information where English is a second language.
- Develop Diversity Advocates Training with other Student Affairs committees
To get involved with the committee, please send resources or ideas for staff development sessions to the tri-chairs: An Wang, Hannah Wilks and DeAndre Taylor. We have a couple of open committee spots, so if you are interested in joining the committee please contact the chairs as well.
Student-Centered Environment Committee
The Student-Centered Environment team will be focusing on student employee appreciation this semester. We are working as a committee to develop a schedule of events for Student Employee Appreciation Week happening April 11-17. We will be looking to partner with departments on programs and activities that express gratitude and appreciation and/or that are focused on professional development. Stay tuned for partnership and volunteer requests!
Employee Engagement Committee
The Employee Engagement Commitment Committee has worked diligently to enhance engagement opportunities for staff throughout all units in the Division of Student Affairs. This includes creating the SA Staff Connect Teams channel, hosting a virtual end-of-semester celebration in December and supporting SA cabinet in hosting the All-Staff Meeting in January. We are currently finalizing a proposed SA employee engagement philosophy, to be shared with SA cabinet in February.
The committee has also made considerable progress in recent months on several initiatives that are anticipated to launch throughout the next few semesters. Mid-fall, the committee established working groups to focus efforts in the following areas:
- Recognition and Events - Led by Lydia Darlington, this group has revised the VC Spotlight Award process and is planning more events and activities for the division.
- Mentorship Program - Meagan Gabaldon is leading this group in developing a division-wide professional mentorship program, anticipated to launch Fall 2021.
- SA Curriculum - Under Katie Gardner’s leadership, this group is developing a cohort-based curriculum for staff in the division who are interested in learning more about the field of student affairs at CU Boulder and more broadly. While still in early planning phases, we are hoping for a soft launch in Spring 2022.
Stay tuned for more details as our programs and activities develop!
The Employee Engagement Commitment Committee wants to hear from SA staff about their engagement interests and topics, challenges or barriers to participating, and any feedback to improve future programs and activities. Please contact the chair, Crystal Cyr, directly with any questions or concerns or provide your confidential feedback via Padlet.
