An update from the Student-Centered Environment Committee
The committee focused on a student-centered environment is helping Student Affairs define what it means to be student-centered. Below you will find a definition of “student-centered” and guiding principles.
What it means to be "student-centered"
Student-centered: Addresses students’ needs and interests equitably by supporting student engagement and learning ultimately promoting student success, the academic mission and a positive CU Boulder experience.
Guiding principles
Use these guiding principles in your daily work and when evaluating programs and policies in your department.
- Positive impact on humanity: Remember that the term ‘student’ represents a unique intersection of identities and experiences. Consider the impact decisions have on various populations, and create an environment that allows for equitable participation.
- Shape tomorrow’s leaders: Identify students’ academic and co-curricular interests and needs by seeking input and feedback for the creation and implementation of new initiatives. For existing initiatives and programs, maintain a connection with students for input and feedback.
- Innovation: Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in delivery of services as students’ and community needs and interests shift.
