The BMES Project program has worked with biotech company SinuTech LLC and founder Dr. Edward Hepworth to develop solutions to everyday issues Dr. Hepworth faces in a clinical setting. From fall 2019 to spring 2020, the team focused on the Gastric Reflux and Airway Disease Project. The GR/AD project aimed to define a relationship between gastric reflux and airway diseases such as sinus infections through PCR analysis testing on campus using Brewer’s yeast. The team worked with patients in clinic who experience these otolaryngology-related medical conditions to find a relationship.

By working with the GR/AD project team, BMES received hands-on experience with biology testing methods such as PCR, work with a nationally-recognized ENT surgeon, publish research findings, and get clinical experience.
