Are you looking for ways to be active this semester? Are you interested in sports, getting outside, trying new things or participating in some friendly competition? Perhaps you want to explore some new activities or meet other active people but don’t know where to start.

There are many opportunities on campus for you to connect with people and organizations that fit your interests. Here are some ways to find your fit with others if you’re interested in getting or staying active.

Join a team sport

Joining a team sport can be an easy way to make new friendships that can lead to long-lasting bonds off the field, too. You can even plan to get food with your team after a game or practice.

If you’re looking for some friendly competition, consider signing up for an Intramural (IM) Sports team. Whether you are new to a sport or experienced, create a team with friends or register as a free agent. Purchase an IM Sports Pass to play in leagues throughout the semester. IM registration dates:

  • Session 1: Jan. 19-26
  • Session 2: Feb. 23–March 2

If you are looking to participate in more competitive sports where you compete against other intercollegiate teams, then join a Sport Club team. Informational meetings are being held throughout January and early February. You can also contact the coach or club officer of the sport you are interested in playing to learn how you can try out.

Enjoy the outdoors

If you’re looking to get outside, then explore CU Boulder’s Outdoor Program. You can rent equipment, join a trip, plan your next adventure and more. The Outdoor Program will help you step out of your comfort zone and connect you with other Buffs who also enjoy outdoor recreational activities.

You can also visit BuffConnect to search for student-run organizations that match your interests or offer something new you’ve been wanting to try.

Find your community

One of the best ways to connect with other Buffs is by trying new things together. Check out Inclusive Rec activities and invite a friend to do them with you. The goal of Inclusive Rec is to create a safe and welcoming environment while providing accessible and respectful opportunities for all. Some activities include fitness classes, ice skating, rock climbing sessions and more.

Adaptive Sports and Recreation supports CU Boulder students with physical disabilities by offering sports and other recreational activities for all levels. This is a great program to help you try something new, have fun and participate in competition.

Move your body

No matter how you choose to move this semester, CU Boulder is here to help you find your fit! You can check out the campus fitness guide and learn about the different ways to get involved and move your body. Take a Fitness & Wellness (FitWell) class to help you build life-long healthy habits, find community and practice self-care. You can even join small group training and instructional classes, have a personal trainer and attend wellness services at the Rec Center Wellness Suite.

Remember that You Belong Here and while recreation fees allow students to access world-class facilities and programs at the Rec Center, some programs require additional costs that may be difficult for some students to afford. Through generous donations, the Rec Center provides financial assistance and scholarships to help students participate fully in trips, classes and other activities.

Attend events

A great way to meet people who share your interests and stay active together is by attending events. Be on the lookout for activities you can be a part of to try new things!

Try things on your own

If you’d like to explore on your own or with a friend, here are a few suggestions for things you can do in your own time.
