Full Statement and Advancing Actions

Staff Council fully embraces advancing equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice. We endeavor to foster a community and culture wherein all are treated with respect, are honored for who they are and feel a sense of belonging. We strive to create an environment wherein everyone is encouraged to be visible as their authentic selves on a campus that is invested in their success and wellbeing. We are committed to including and valuing all diverse perspectives and are motivated to continue to evaluate ourselves and our community to continuously improve this environment.

Staff Council recognizes that many groups, including but not limited to people of color, indigenous people, people with disabilities, all genders of people, people of varying  sexual identities, people of all religious affiliations, immigrants regardless of national origin or ethnicity, people without US citizenship, and people of many socioeconomic classes experience discrimination and underrepresentation. Our commitment requires a comprehensive approach which is, at a minimum, comprised of these standards:

  • Individual education and reflection - continuously seeking to understand one’s own biases and mitigating them.
  • Structural change - ongoing extensive review of policies and procedures to identify exclusionary practices and address systemic inequities.
  • Support systems - continuously building support systems for those on our campus who have been historically marginalized. Promotes equitable opportunities for success.
  • Allyship and advocacy - be individual allies and advocates for each other by designing structures for accountability and allyship as an institution.

Staff Council commits to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice applying in everything we do. We expect that our people exemplify it, our systems integrate it, and our environment is imbued with welcoming and understanding. We recognize that there is much work to be done and pledge to be diligent and transparent in the process of making CU inclusively excellent.
