Secondary Spanish Teaching Licensure
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese collaborates with the School of Education to offer a Secondary Spanish Teaching Licensure, which is available to degree-seeking undergraduate students and post-BA candidates. For degree-seeking undergraduates, the licensure requires the same coursework as the Spanish Language and Literature major together with several additional classes through the School of Education, plus a final semester in which you will student-teach at a local middle or high school. Undergraduate candidates in this program also enroll for the Middle and High School Teaching (MHST) major through the School of Education.
Requirements for the licensure can be found at Secondary Spanish Teaching Licensure from the CU Boulder catalog.
For information on applying for the licensure see the School of Education's How to Apply for Teacher Licensure page.
One of the required courses for the Secondary Spanish Licensure is SPAN 4650, Methods of Teaching Spanish. It is a 3-credit course offered every other spring (odd years).
The Elizabeth Brower Fund offers funding to Secondary Spanish Teaching Licensure candidates, as well as graduate students, and faculty, for activities related to improving Spanish language teaching.
Anne Becher (M.A. in Hispanic Linguistics, CU-Boulder, 1992) is the Advisor for the Secondary Spanish Teaching Licensure program.
