STEM Mentors
STEM Mentors are CU Boulder students committed to promoting positive STEM interest and identity among youth in our shared community through youth mentorship, academic tutoring, and facilitating engaging math and STEM afterschool activities. The program, administered by CU Science Discovery, is led by a dedicated five-member STEM Mentors Leadership Board comprised of students and Science Discovery staff. Approximately 30-45 CU students serve as mentors at five local schools each year.
STEM Mentors are partnered with local schools and commit to regularly scheduled site visits. Mentors engage students in enriching STEM activities, designed to promote positive identity among participants – with students often leaving the program identifying as STEM people and mathematicians!
How to Get Involved:
Are you a CU student who loves outreach and working with kids in STEM? Complete the 2026-2027 Mentor Interest form and we'll be in touch.
Interested in paid student leadership positions? The STEM Mentors Leadership Board will be reassembled in the spring after the completion of this year’s programs. Students seeking a leadership position should first participate actively as a mentor at a school site. Please check back in the spring for more information.
