The Program for Writing and Rhetoric Seeks Applications for PWR Director

The Program for Writing and Rhetoric invites applications for the position of Director. The Director will oversee the continued growth of a program that is central to UCB's instructional and research missions. The PWR is an independent unit with campus-wide responsibility for first- and third-year writing courses. At the undergraduate level, we are committed to enhancing students’ multiliteracies through inclusive writing pedagogies in small class sizes. We sponsor a thriving Writing Certificate Program and a burgeoning minor in Writing and Public Engagement in concert with the English Department. Our commitment is to both enhance writing studies as a discipline on this campus and to promote writing across the curriculum and in the disciplines. The Program contributes to discussions of the future of writing on the Boulder campus by building on existing strong initiatives, such as current service learning/civic engagement programs; diversity, equity, and inclusion programs; and dual enrollment and bridge program initiatives, while also forging links with other academic units, such as information studies in CMCI and English in A & S.

As with CU Boulder on the whole, PWR is committed to generating a community and a curriculum whose excellence is premised on diversity, equity and inclusion. We seek candidates who share this commitment and demonstrate understanding of the experiences of those historically underrepresented in higher education. We welcome applications from minoritized racial and ethnic identities, ciswomen, non-normative genders and sexualities, persons with disabilities, and others who have encountered legacies of marginalization.

The Program seeks a teacher/scholar at the rank of advanced Associate or Full Professoror Advanced Associate Teaching Professor with a strong record of administrative experience and accomplishment, preferably in the field of Rhetoric and Composition, including Writing Program Administration.  The Director position carries a stipend determined by the College, paid over 12 months. Appointment will begin July 1, 2024.

For full consideration, please send a letter of application, a cv, and names of three references to PWR Assistant Program Director Linda Nicita, at nicita@colorado.edu by Friday, March 1, 2024.  (Note updated deadline!) Finalists will be invited to make a 30-minute presentation to PWR Faculty on Friday, March 15, 2024, highlighting any combination of their teaching, research, or administration as well as their vision for the program, including PWR’s relationship to the larger campus. Presentation to be followed by Q&A.
