Marie-Catherine d'Aulnoy

Marie-Catherine Le Jumel de Barneville, Baroness d'Aulnoy (1650/1-1705) was one of the early French fairy tale authors and actually popularized the term fairy tales (contes de fées in French). She published most of her fairy tales in 1697 and 1698. The 1690s, in retrospect, kicked off a major wave of the fairy tales genre, with Charles Perrault and others also publishing their collections of fairy tales.
