How to Apply
Successful applicants typically will have:
- An Undergraduate GPA of:
- MS Applicants - 3.2 or higher
- PhD Applicants - 3.4 or higher
- Required:
- Two semesters of calculus
- Differential equations with linear algebra OR a focused linear algebra course
- One semester of calculus-based physics
- At least two semesters of upper-division undergraduate courses in engineering, computer science, or physical sciences
- Preferred:
- Completion of a third semester of calculus
- Second semester of calculus-based physics, and/or
- A focused linear algebra course
- For International Applicants, if applicable, English language scores of:
- TOEFL: 83 (minimum), 100 (preferred)
- IELTS: 6.0 (minimum), 7.0 (preferred)
- Duolingo: 120
- GRE scores are not required for any applicant.
When you apply, you will need to provide the following materials:
- Academic History (degrees awarded, dates attended, GPA, and unofficial transcripts from all schools attended)
- Employment History (starting from the date you began your undergraduate coursework and including dates of employment and position title, plus a CV or resume)
- English Proficiency Test Scores (if applicable; please see the Graduate School's English proficiency requirements for more information)
- Letters of Reference
- Two (2) for MS applicants
- Three (3) for PhD applicants
- Personal Statement
- Maximum of two pages for MS applicants
- Maximum of three pages for PhD applicants
- Application Fee
Applications for admission for Fall 2026 will open in mid-July. We do not offer an admission option for the spring semester.
PhD Program
- International Applicants: Application Deadline for Fall 2026 Admission is December 1, 2025
- Domestic Applicants: Application Deadline for Fall 2026 Admission is December 15, 2025
MS Program
- Domestic and International Applicants: Application Deadline for Fall 2026 Admission is December 15, 2025
For current CU Engineering Students interested in transferring into Robotics
The Robotics Program will accept internal transfers from other departments and programs in the CU Boulder College of Engineering and Applied Science starting in Fall 2024.
Transfers will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the graduate committee through a petition. Please contact Lindsey Morford, robotics program specialist, for further information.
