This A-term course explores the origins of pressing social issues in a very dynamic region. Over the month of June, we’ll study the development of democracy, problems of violence and inequality, and the role of participation by everyday citizens. We’ll use the tools of political science to evaluate current events including the protests in Chile, Bolivia, and Ecuador, the instability in Venezuela, and the rise of Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil.
