5 things to know about studying abroad

CU Boulder offers students opportunities to study and travel in another country through Education Abroad. Your student can explore ways to embark on an experience of a lifetime that presents unique challenges and opportunities that require independence and self-reliance. Learn more about how Education Abroad works and how your student can get involved.

Open for all majors

Classes are available for all CU Boulder majors, including engineering, architecture and business students. Students can talk with their academic advisors and plan to add an education abroad experience into their college career.

Diverse program opportunities

Education Abroad offers international study, internship, research, faculty-led and service-learning programs. Students can study at a local university, get hands-on experience in the community or spend the summer traveling with and learning from a CU Boulder professor. Programs exist for all budgets, and financial aid applies.

Hundreds of programs are available

Students may choose from hundreds of approved programs in over 70 countries. The world can be their classroom! Study abroad in the heart of bustling cities like London and Tokyo or explore more remote locations like Tanzania and Botswana. With program locations and options across interests, students can find a program that’s right for them.

Different timelines to fit student goals

Students can go abroad for a semester, a full year, summer or even over winter break. Many students choose their junior year to study abroad, but there’s no limit to the number of times students can participate. If your student can’t decide between two opportunities, they can do both during their time at CU Boulder. Even first-year students can participate.

Experience another culture

Your student can complete an internship to get practical, resume-building experience or explore their academic interests from a new, international perspective. Education abroad helps build connections and friendships from around the world. Your student may even want to learn or improve upon a second (or third) language. Whatever their goals or interests, studying abroad allows students to expand their knowledge and experience another culture.
