Aesha's thoughts

There are so many opportunities on CU Boulder’s campus for students to get involved in. There are multiple clubs, organizations, events, research opportunities and more! When I was a freshman I found that the thing that helped me the most was communicating with professors about opportunities such as research or clubs that they may run. Professors have so much knowledge about all of the things going on especially if you want to do something pertaining to a certain subject.

get involvedAnother tip that I would give is reading all of CU Boulder’s emails because they always email about different events and clubs going on. Even if you are unsure about whether or not a club would be interesting I would recommend going to a meeting and throwing yourself into the mix. I know this can be very difficult but once you go to one meeting you have already paved your way into the club. I think it is helpful as a student in the CU community to get involved on campus. Getting involved will help you make friends and build your own community at CU. Hopefully these tips help with your involvement at CU. Good luck with your upcoming semester!

Brooke's thoughts

There are so many ways to get involved at CU Boulder. My number one tip for finding a community here at CU Boulder would be asking around by word of mouth. Almost all of the clubs and teams that I am a part of at CU have been due to someone telling me about a specific club that is really fun or I hear through a grapevine about a club that I am interested in. There is no harm in asking peers, friends, professors, or other CU Boulder students about clubs or student groups that they are a part of, or would highly recommend.

A great resource for finding student organizations is this website: https://colorado.presence.io/organizations. You can search for certain clubs, or categories of clubs that you might be interested in joining. If you find a student group you are interested in joining on this website, you can contact them and ask questions to see if this club is the right fit for you!

Another tip to get involved is to check your email! The number of times that I have checked my email and found a fun, free event that I can join is shocking! There are so many different events--whether it’s through the CU rec center offering a week of free fitness classes, or through your dorm that is hosting a cereal night! If you check your email, you will find extremely fun events, guaranteed.

Overall, you will find your place at CU Boulder, because it is a place for everyone. You don’t always find the right club at first, but if you keep looking you are bound to find your home at CU Boulder. Try new things, put yourself out there if you are comfortable, and keep looking out for opportunities to join the community!
