Kelsey is a junior at CU Boulder studying Elementary Education from Fort Morgan, Colorado. After graduation, she plans to pursue her passion of teaching! Outside of classes, Kelsey likes to spend time with her dog, hang out in the mountains with family and friends, and everything tie dye.
I hope everyone’s semester has been off to a strong start. It's finally move-in time! I remember my move-in day, there were nerves but I also couldn’t wait to start my CU Boulder experience. Now, during these unprecedented times things might look different, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t get the CU “college experience.” Below are some helpful tips that I found helpful for my move-in day.
Reach out to your roommate before you move-in: I remember how nervous I was meeting my new roommate. I had reached out to her before move-in so that we wouldn't be complete strangers. When it came time to move-in, I didn’t have the nerves of meeting a stranger who I was supposed to live with. Instead, I had a friendly, familiar face from day one.
Don’t bring your entire closet: My dorm room closet and storage space was a lot smaller than my closet at home. I definitely recommend packing smart! Try to pack clothing and shoes that are multi-purpose/ multi-occasion. Here in Colorado, that can be hard with the always changing weather, so pack clothes for warm weather, cool weather, and everything in between.
After moving in the essentials, make a list of things that can help make your space feel like home!: When I packed for college, I researched lists of recommended items and reached out to peers who had lived in dorms years before. Find what CU dorm rooms have here. I only packed the essentials and made a plan to make a list of other things I needed. After I unpacked most of my things, I listed out other items that included: posters to hang up on my walls, desk organizers, and snacks to have in my dorm room. After a quick grocery run, my dorm room already started to feel more comfortable.
Double check what is and is not allowed in your room: Here is a list of what to bring and what not to bring to your dorm room.
