Late Semester Support

Alternative Breaks

The semester is flying by!
It's hard to believe that there are only a few weeks left in your student's first semester! As they look forward to fall and winter breaks—and even the spring semester—it can be easy to start daydreaming about the future. Now is also the time when some students begin to struggle, either with their personal relationships, their schoolwork or the changing weather. If your student needs support, CU Boulder has resources and programs on campus to help them be successful. Be sure to check in with your student to make sure they're getting the help they need.

Alternative Breaks

Many students are already daydreaming about relaxing trips they could take during school breaks, but why not try to do more? The Volunteer Resource Center's Alternative Breaks program gives students the opportunity to travel the country and volunteer on projects. Its a great learning experience! Learn more and apply

Therapy Dogs

This time of year can be stressful for students as they learn to balance socializing, being involved and class work. A great way to deal with this stress is through therapy dogs, which are brought to campus by the CU Libraries for students to enjoy. Encourage your student to stop by and get some furry love! Check the schedule

Get Involved

Even though your student may be feeling more confident navigating campus life, it's never too late to find more ways to be involved! The Center for Student Involvement has a variety of ways for students to connect with each other and the campus community through student groups, leadership opportunities and campus events. Volunteering

For students who stay in Boulder over fall and winter breaks, it can be easy to get stuck inside. The Volunteer Resource Center has a cure for this, with plenty of great opportunities in or near Boulder focusing on a variety of topics! Volunteer experience looks great on a resume, and its also a great way to take advantage of breaks. Find great opportunities

Learning about stress management
When times get tough, it can be helpful to have a strong network of friends and family to fall back on. Students may turn to their friends for support during stressful midterms and finals because they are going through the same thing, but some students aren't sure how to best support their friends—or themselves. Learning how to manage stress and anxiety doesn't have to be difficult! Feel free to reach out to your student to see if they need help and encourage them to take care of themselves as well.
